Crop Calendar — Free Interactive Garden Planner

A free, interactive crop calendar that adapts to your climate. Pick your city, see exactly when to plant and harvest 30+ vegetables, herbs, and fruits, then save your plan or share it as an image. Works for both open garden beds and balcony pots.

How the crop calendar works

  1. Pick your city or climate zone. Type your city in the search box (Sardinia, San Francisco, Tokyo… hundreds of presets), or pick one of the four zones directly: Cold, Temperate, Mediterranean, or Warm/Subtropical.
  2. Watch the year light up. Slide through the months and every crop’s planting and harvest windows update with science-backed timing for your zone.
  3. Plan your bed (or balcony). Drag crops onto your bed, see companion-plant friendships glow green or red, then save your plan or share it as a Pinterest-friendly image.

Why this crop calendar

  • Climate-aware: 4 zones with city-level presets — your local growing season, not generic averages.
  • 30+ crops: vegetables, herbs, and fruit with planting windows synthesized from RHS, USDA Cooperative Extension, University of Minnesota Extension, UC Agriculture & Natural Resources, and the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
  • Companion glow: hover over a crop to see which neighbors it loves (green halo) or hates (red halo).
  • Balcony mode: swap the open bed for a small round pot, window box, and big planter — the small pot enforces single-occupancy so you don’t overcrowd.
  • Free, no signup, works offline: all state lives in the URL — bookmark a planted bed and it loads back instantly.
  • Save & share: name and store plans in your browser, or download your bed as a PNG to share on Pinterest, Instagram, or with garden friends.

Frequently asked questions

Is the crop calendar really free?

Yes — completely free, no signup, no email required. Bookmark it and use it as much as you want.

How do I pick the right climate zone?

Type your city in the search box. We have presets for hundreds of cities worldwide. If yours isn’t listed, pick the zone that matches: Cold (short summer, harsh winter), Temperate (4 distinct seasons), Mediterranean (mild winter, hot dry summer), or Warm/Subtropical (mostly warm year-round).

Can I use it for container gardening on a balcony?

Yes — toggle to “Balcony” mode. The bed becomes terracotta containers (small round pot, window box, big planter). Crops marked container-friendly will work in pots, and you can add, remove, or drag pots to rearrange.

Where does the planting data come from?

We synthesized planting windows from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), USDA Cooperative Extension, University of Minnesota Extension, UC Agriculture & Natural Resources, and the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

Can I share my garden plan?

Yes — hit “Share as image” to download a PNG of your bed (great for Pinterest or sharing with friends), or copy the URL — it encodes your zone, month, and every planted crop.
